Practice 1/17/14

Diana and Analysa being silly

Since I got injured, I wasn't able to practice due to the stitches on my forehead. I was just helping coach Ana set up cones for the drills. I saw a different perspective on how we play. There is a lot of passing in our style of play. That's why we need so much communication which I feel we are lacking at sometimes. But we are improving. I would tell the girls to check for their surroundings and to check who to pass it to. I had to just watch from the sidelines. I want to get back on the pitch again!

Southpoly vs Connelly 1/14/14

We had a non-league game against Connelly High School in Anaheim one Tuesday. One thing our coach wanted to do during the game was open up the field and do a lot of passing. We warmed up as usual so we wouldn't pull any muscle or anything. At the start of the first half we had most of the possession but the other girls were so tall that we just couldn't get the ball past them. For some reason we couldn't play our style of play and that was getting frustrating. My friend Diana and I ended up scoring in the first half but there could have been more goals. The score was 2-1. During the middle of second half I got cleated in the face by the goalkeeper. I fell to the ground and was holding my face. It hurt so bad! I didn't know I was bleeding till I actually saw blood dripping off my face. My coaches came to help stop the bleeding, clean my face and see if I had more than one cut. They walked me off the field and was subbed out for the rest of the game. My coach Tipton wrapped bandages so it could stop bleeding and thankfully it did. All my friends were taking care of me so I wouldn't fall asleep due to a concussion. When I got home my mom took me to the ER to see if I needed stitches. I got 5. Now I won't be able to play until my doctor gives me my release:(

Southpoly vs Webb Schools

Today's game was at Webb Schools in Claremont. It has such beautiful views. To me it looked like a college campus. Anyways, this game was a friendly game because they are in a higher division than Southlands. That's what I was told. I got to be captain with my teammate Diana. We meet the refs and the other captains of our opponent's team and choose what side we want to start of in and who starts with the ball first all with the flip of a coin.  This game against Webb schools was more of a back and forth kind of game. We had some chances in scoring so did they. They were also super tall and physical. They ended up scoring one goal in the first half. During the first half one of our teammate got badly injured and I think thats what changed our game. We were worried about her and that we only had one sub. We weren't focused on the game. At the start of the second half we changed that. We were dominating in possession we just couldn't get the ball in the back of the net. Since we had no more subs I had to drop down and play as a midfield, which I think I did pretty well in marking my player, helping out the defense and going up when we were goal bound. We lost the game 1-0. Our coach said we played really well. We tried our best! :)

bus ride to game with these girls:)

Their soccer field and school was so beautiful.

Southlands vs Sacred Heart of Jesus 4-0 1/6/14

We had a home game against Sacred Heart of Jesus. Last time we played them we beat them 16-0. This time we had less goals. We were doing very good with communication but the other team was just doing good with clearing the ball out of danger and marking us. I think the other team was just happy that we didn't score as many goals as before. I ended up scoring a goal. I think our coach was kind of upset that we couldn't score as many goals. We did good though. We just have to learn from each game and improve.  We ended up winning 4-0. Yaayy!!!:D

We also got our spirit pack which included a backpack, practice shirt , warm-up pants, and a sweater! They look very nice! We could now look like a team for each game and look intimidating. ahah!:D

Blog 10: Senior Project: The Holiday

1. It is important to consistently work on your senior project, whether it is over break or we are in school. What did you do over the break with your senior project?

Since we had 2 weeks off for break, for soccer it is important that you keep practicing and running because then you will lose your touch and conditioning. During the break I would jog 2 miles three times a week with my sister. My sister also helped me work on my running strides and sprints to become faster. I would practice some soccer drills so I wouldn't lose my touch. One of the things that help me the most is that I would go mountain biking at Marshall Canyon and around Bonelli Park which helped with my endurance and working out my legs.

2. What was the most important thing you learned from what you did and why? What was the source of what you learned?
The most important thing I learned is that you have to be practice as much as possible and running in order to become better in soccer. The source is "Get Faster-Speed Training".

3. If you were going to do a 10 question interview on questions related to answers of your EQ, who would you talk to and why?
I would talk to both of my mentors Ana Mendez and Marissa Tipton. The are my coaches at Southlands. They have a lot of experience with soccer whether it being coaching or actually playing themselves. I think they would give me really great answers. It would be nice to see different perspectives other than one.
