Blog 18: Third Answer

Content:

How can a girls soccer team best maximize their chances in winning CIF?

Soccer players should be on a high in carbohydrates and low in fats diet to maximize their chances in winning.

Carbohydrates are any of a large group of organic compounds that are broken down to provide energy and fuel required during repetitive of high- intensity exercises. My mentor coach Ana Mendez and Marissa Tipton would tell us to eat 2 hours before our game. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and fruits were the best sources of carbohydrates before a game.

U.S Youth Soccer and English Football Association showed that nearly 25% of all injuries occur in the last 15-20 minutes of a game due to the lack of good nutrition or carbohydrates. A healthy diet can help soccer players recover from injury quicker. The number one cause of injury is fatigue.

The average soccer player runs about 8,500 meters during a match. the day before and of a game I would drink water to stay hydrated and carbohyrates since they are a fast source of energy needed for the game.

During the course of training and match play, it is common for players to run several miles, burning through calories and body fluids at prodigious rates. Good nutrition for soccer players involves good eating habits before, during and following training.

Blog 10: Senior Project: The Holiday

1. It is important to consistently work on your senior project, whether it is over break or we are in school. What did you do over the break with your senior project?

Since we had 2 weeks off for break, for soccer it is important that you keep practicing and running because then you will lose your touch and conditioning. During the break I would jog 2 miles three times a week with my sister. My sister also helped me work on my running strides and sprints to become faster. I would practice some soccer drills so I wouldn't lose my touch. One of the things that help me the most is that I would go mountain biking at Marshall Canyon and around Bonelli Park which helped with my endurance and working out my legs.

2. What was the most important thing you learned from what you did and why? What was the source of what you learned?
The most important thing I learned is that you have to be practice as much as possible and running in order to become better in soccer. The source is "Get Faster-Speed Training".

3. If you were going to do a 10 question interview on questions related to answers of your EQ, who would you talk to and why?
I would talk to both of my mentors Ana Mendez and Marissa Tipton. The are my coaches at Southlands. They have a lot of experience with soccer whether it being coaching or actually playing themselves. I think they would give me really great answers. It would be nice to see different perspectives other than one.

Blog 9: EQ

1. I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ.

2 a. What is the most important factor in healthy weight loss?
I believe this does not meet the EQ criteria because this sentence is not specific. What is the group age? Female or male? Those are important factors you should add. Adding this would also help with specific research.

b.What is the most important to securing a criminal investigation?
I also don't believe this meets the criteria. There are so many criminal investigation you have to be more specific.

c. What is most important in creating a hairstyle that best satisfies a customer?
Pretty good EQ.  But what kind of customers are they referring to? There is some decent research.

d. How can an Anesthesiologist best treat chronic pain?
The question can be debatable and have good research. The only problem is what kind or body pain? there are many, it is too general.

3. What is the most important factor in winning a U-18 girls soccer competition?

Blog 8: Research and Working EQ

Content:

1.What are the most important factors in winning a girls soccer competition?

2.
  • Nutrition because for example you need carbohydrates for your muscles because it is the most essential fast fuel for energy production and nutrition helps you do well in soccer games or training. Your performance is the result of nutrition.

  • Practice makes perfect! You won't get better with or without your team if you don't practice. It is practice that gives you both the skill and the confidence to be able to make passes and the shots that make all the difference in the games. Also practice focuses on developing your skills and techniques.
3. The most important source is "Creatine, Carbs, and Fluids: How important in soccer nutrition?" by Donald T. Kirkendall. It gave me a better understanding of what to eat and what is the importance of soccer nutrition.

4. My mentor is Jaime Fuentes from my Spain team and I'm trying to get another which would be Marissa Tipton, coach of the Southlands girls soccer team. What I do at my practices relates to my EQ because we are trying to win a competition and we are practicing to get better with ball control, speed and conditioning. Everything that is needed to win a competition.

Blog 5: Project Reflection and Working EQ

Content:

1. One of the most positive things that happened was that I am now have some knowledge of what ligaments my sister tore from her injury and how that injury happened. She torn a little bit of her ACL and her meniscus which causes her knee to be locked when trying to straighten it. Everything I have learned is really interesting and I want to know more about my topic. The research I have found has helped me know the different types of injuries a soccer player can get.

2. One piece of research that has really helped is the book by Ronald P. Pfeiffer called Concepts of Athletic Training. It has helped me because it's everything you need to know about an athletic trainer, for example knowing the human anatomy, the laws of sports injury and evaluation. I haven't finished reading the book, but so far it's a good book.

3. What has worked for me so far in the senior project is finding good research every week and my topic in general because it is something I am planning on doing as a career.

4. Unfortunately what hasn't worked for me is finding an athletic trainer as a mentor. Also it's slightly hard to find research that doesn't involve trials or just reports. I have to go more in depth with my research which is good so it evens out.

5. Working EQ

  •  What is the best way for an athletic trainer to treat soccer injuries among athletes?
  • For mentorship I am trying to contact the athletic trainer from Diamond Ranch High School. Mr. Paulson also holds classes for students that are interested in Athletic Training or Sports Medicine, so it wouldn't be too impossible to volunteer there. If that doesn't work out as planned then I would ask the Athletic Trainer of Ganesha High School if it would be possible.

2) I have no specific questions but when is the latest day to change your senior year topic if you don't like it or change your mind?

3) I think the most important part of the senior project is having a good mentor, good research and definitely the essential question and your 3 answers.

4) The topic I'm considering doing is an athletic trainer (sports medicine) or soccer, or both tied in someway. These are my choices because it amazes me how you can recovery from an injury but also what your body is capable of doing in sports and I love soccer! I would already have my mentorship if I were to do my senior project on soccer because I'm in a soccer team and I could help coach or train the team.
