Southpoly Experience

Throughout my mentorship with the Southlands girls varsity soccer team I have learned many things that I will take on and off the soccer field. For example taking warm ups more seriously and that you need all the girls in order to win. You have to have good friendships among the team because then it creates more confidence among each individual and the team as a whole. You have to be confident and believe in yourself. I have never been apart of a high school soccer team so I am very blessed to have this opportunity. I was nervous and doubting if I should have joined in the first place but I'm glad I did. I've created friendships that could possibly last for a long time. Im also glad I get to share this experience with I-Poly teammates; Analysa, Regina, Luz, Briana and her sister Kimberly. I think it's amazing how a sport or passion can unite a certain group of girls. The team is doing pretty good so far we have tied two games and won two games. I'm very proud of this team and I couldn't ask for any other.

Saddleback vs Southlands

We had another home game. This game was against Saddleback Valley Christian. We heard that this team won CIF last year, so I was a bit nervous. I didn't know what to expect from this game. Starting in the game my team mate scored a goal in first five minutes of the game and I think that helped me ease off the nervousness and just play as a team like we are so accustom to. This game was very physical!! The other team was just using their body and just playing dirty. We didn't need to do any of that to play soccer which I thought was pretty cool.  I scored a goal in this game. I felt like I helped with that goal and just doing my best. In the second half we were winning but they just scored two goals and we were tied at 3-3. I don't even know what happened but we just kept trying to score. In the many years of playing, I got my first yellow card and had to be subbed out for 15 minutes. The reason why was because I went one on one with the goalie. She dropped the ball so I went after it and unfortunately the ref called it. It was more like the goalkeeper dropped me but in CIF rules once the goal keeper has the ball you basically can't touch them. In games, goalkeepers are prone to get hit a lot this they do all they can to block the ball. This rule helps keep the goalie safe from any serious injuries. We ended up tie the game with a 4-4 score. We were winning in the last minute but we just couldn't hold them off and the scored:( I think even though we tied we played an amazing game. Saddleback is the top team od the league and the fact that we were able to tie was awesome. This is the first year that Southlands has a girls soccer team so there is a great future for our team!

Southlands vs Fairmont Prep

We have to line up all our bags in a
row so there wouldn't be bags
scattered around everywhere.
This is my teammate Jenny. She is awesome! She was game
ready! ahah

Today was an away game against Fairmont Prep High School in Anaheim. This game counted as a league game so we didn't want to lose or tie. Our team was excited to play this game. When we were on the pitch, the ball was always on our opponents side because we had most of the possession and were trying to score. My team scored the first goal within the first 5 minutes of the game. We had many scoring opportunities but we just couldn't land one in. Starting second half with the score of 1-0 Fairmont made a goal. Their goal was our own mistake that made us upset. Those remaining minutes of the game were so frustrating because we were not scoring with all those shots on goal we had. There was about 30( I know!! that's a lot) Finally in the last 3-4 minutes, my teammate Diana took the ball for the right wing. She crossed the ball to the center where my other teammate Autumn and I were waiting for the ball. When the ball was crossed it was left untouched by the defenders and Autumn. Since she was playing right forward she was the one close to getting the ball first than me. But since the ball was left untouched it came to me on all the way on the left side. I took about one or two touches on the ball and shot  as the goalie tried to block the shot but I scored the goal. After that goal some of my teams ran up to hug me. The were screaming that they loved me! It was like winning a final or a world cup match. It was amazing. When the other team started from the half line again the whistle was blown that the game was over. We won!! 2-1 It was the most intense and frustrating game but I was proud of my team that we never gave up. We were just working twice as hard to win and it showed. My teammates all had a great performance.

Southlands vs TVT 0-0 T 12/2/13

Today was our first away game of the league. The school we were playing was Tarbut V’Tora. It was such a beautiful school but it had a muddy field. I think at the start of the game we were pretty nervous because it was our first league game of the season. In the first half we weren't playing our best:/ We weren't taking advantage of the throw ins we had. We either couldn't control the ball and our opponents would get the ball or when we tried to pass it back to the thrower, the pass would go out of play. We did get many shots on goal but the goalie was just very good and confident. The ball was pretty much on their side but we couldn't put the ball in the net. We tied the game 0-0 but we will get them next time:)

Catalina Island Trip

Arriving to board the ferry.
Adventure is out there! (until next time)

Charades with the coach and some of the girls. (there was more girls playing though)

Today the Southlands boys and girls soccer team were going to Catalina Island for the girl's first 2 season games and I believe the guy's 2 pre-season games against Avalon High School. We were to spend Friday and Saturday at Catalina Island for those 2 games. On our way to Long Beach it was raining the entire time and super cold. We arrived at the terminal like around 9:40 and had to wait for the 11 o'clock ferry to Catalina. That waiting consisted of playing Spoons and other competitive card games with some of the girls from my team. We were 10 minutes away from the departure when our coach gets a call from the athletic director from Southlands that the game was cancelled :( The city cancelled the game and would be rescheduled on a later date due to the rain. We had to wait another 2 hours for the bus to take us home. Even though it got cancelled, I thought it was awesome that we got to bond with our teammates by hanging out and playing charades. Even our coach was playing!

Southlands Christian HS vs Blair HS

On Tuesday it was our first pre-season game against Blair High School. It was a home game for us, so was a lot of parents cheering us on. This game was a friendly but my coach said if we won it would count for us in the actual soccer season. One of the main things my coach said was to have fun on the field and to be safe. I honestly think we did what she said. We made good passes, abundant amount of goal opportunities and had good communication. We had the other team on their toes. I have to say that I was a bit nervous during warm-ups because it was my first high school soccer game. I also had the opportunity to be captain alongside my teammate Diana. We got to choose if we kicked off or took the field first. It was the first time being captain for a high school soccer team.

Praying before the game. God gives us strength!
1...2...3 SOUTH POLY!!!
Captains! (Diana and I)
After goal celebration.
Half time talk on how we did in the first half and what we could
change for the second half.
I played wearing jersey #41
The final score was 3-1. I scored twice and Diana scored once.

Blog 9: EQ

1. I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ.

2 a. What is the most important factor in healthy weight loss?
I believe this does not meet the EQ criteria because this sentence is not specific. What is the group age? Female or male? Those are important factors you should add. Adding this would also help with specific research.

b.What is the most important to securing a criminal investigation?
I also don't believe this meets the criteria. There are so many criminal investigation you have to be more specific.

c. What is most important in creating a hairstyle that best satisfies a customer?
Pretty good EQ.  But what kind of customers are they referring to? There is some decent research.

d. How can an Anesthesiologist best treat chronic pain?
The question can be debatable and have good research. The only problem is what kind or body pain? there are many, it is too general.

3. What is the most important factor in winning a U-18 girls soccer competition?

Spain Team

This weekend my team and I had a game to qualify for the finals. Since the other team scored one goal last weekend, it counted today. So we had to score 2 or more goals to qualify. We couldn't leave it at a draw because that would make or opponents win with a extra point they had from last Sunday's game. It was a tough game but my team managed. We won 3-0. Yaaay!!!!

Spain team:)

going to start our stretching.
Before heading out to the field

Team Huddle. Made a master plan on how to win
(which worked)

About to give my credential to the Ref.
He just makes sure we are registered and aren't
 using a false ID
My forward buddy! She scored two goals. So proud!
We did really good today that the coach
even bought us a torta.

The assistant coach, her daughters and I. Great
people and soccer players
Family came to support! Can't wait till Gohan is
out on the field with me

Post-game smiles.
My team played really good! We went past our limits. Even though we were winning 2-0,we just wanted to keep scoring more. In our eyes it was still a 0-0 game. We were all determined to win. Unfortunately there was 3 direct red cards because my teammate and a girl from the other team got in a fight and the third card was because another girl from the opposing team didn't like what the ref was calling as fouls. She was tried of the Ref and cussed him out. Which really is unfortunate to loss a player like that, but we had to keep playing. A lot of our parents came to support us. There was like two rows of parents just cheering for us the entire game. It was amazing! NOW OFF THE THE FINALS!!
